A Letter from the Co-Chairs

Dear Harvard and Radcliffe ’59,

We are writing to alert you to the plans underway for our 60th Reunion in the hope that you in turn will plan to attend. We are trying to make this a party that you will not want to miss. Our goal is to feature the most interesting faculty, to provide sessions about and interaction with today’s College students, and an exposure to the dramatic new buildings of the University.  We want to do this while limiting the expense and making the logistics as friendly as possible for those with limited mobility.

We will be communicating with you directly by email and snail mail, and our 60th Reunion website is available here with additional information. As well, you will be hearing from Stephanie Martin and Lou Howland who are editing our Class Report.

Our hotel will be the DoubleTree Suites. It is close to the Business School. For those who enjoy walking, it is 15 minutes from the Yard. For others, it will be a much shorter van/bus ride than the Marriott in Kendall Square. The cost is at the lowest end of the alternatives. Our opening reception will be there on Monday evening.

Tuesday is the day for our Memorial Service and class photo. There are tentative plans to meet with the new president and after lunch we will begin our speaker sessions organized by Warren McFarlan. Over Tuesday and Wednesday we will hear from HKS Professor Nick Burns (a star of our 55th) about the global situation, and FAS Professor Theda Skocpol about the US. We will hear about the digital age from Professor Harry Lewis, and about today’s students from Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Bill Fitzsimmons and coaches just after we have lunched with as many interesting students as we can assemble. We also plan a session on “who we were and what we did” based on our personal notes and a questionnaire. As well, there is a plan to have a session for Radcliffe ’59 to meet together.

Our goal is to have all our sessions in one room in Emerson, and to have our own home room/lounge nearby in the Yard. We hope to have Tuesday’s dinner in one of the house dining rooms. Wednesday dinner should be a highlight. We have reserved the new Renzo Piano resurrection of the Harvard Art Museum for dinner and a talk by the new curator.

Commencement Day is organized by the University.  Those from ’59 attending will be admitted to the Yard to march with the class.  We will information on how to register spouses for tickets on the website.  Friday is Radcliffe Day.  Those planning to attend will again have to register.

Of course what will make this all a success is you and your friends. We need you to join us for a fabulous 60th. Make your plans. Call friends and get them to come. Let’s make this a wonderful example of what people who share experiences and values can do when they come together to eat, drink, talk, and listen.

All the best,

Stephanie Martin and Joe Bower
